Nalorakk First Kill Photo

Tonight the Ysera guild Apex of War has ventured into Zul’Aman for the first time, and has now claimed Nalorakk the Bear Lord as its first kill. Congratulations to Apex of War.

Apex of War Enters Zul’Aman

The first raid made by the Ysera guild Apex of War was quite a successful one. I don’t think any of us had been in there before, and only some of us had one any research heading in.

I was the only Warlock, which was nice. The other DPS members included 2 Hunters (and their Ravagers of course), a moonkin Druid, and a Mage. We used a protection Warrior and a feral Druid for tanking. Healing were a pair of holy priests and a holy Paladin.

Banging the gong to gain entry to the main part of the instance was interesting. It’s different, if nothing else. I can see that becoming quite annoying as the weeks progress.

The trash mobs are interesting. The Amani’Shi Scout, when alerted to the group’s presence, runs off to use a drum to summon more mobs. Killing him before he can summon his friends becomes the first priority. It’s interesting to note as we encounter them, we usually don’t kill them before they run off and use the drum. Probably it’s partly because we’re not sure where all the drums are located yet. That will change with time.

Fighting mobs that are mounted (specifically the Amani’shi Warbringers) is also interesting. They fight mounted for a period, and then essentially separate (dismount) into 2 mobs…the Amani’shi Warbringer himself, and his Amani’shi Bear Mount. I suspect we’ll become better at picking up the Bear Mount and using crowd control on it as we progress.

The fight with Nalorakk was pretty intense. We got him down on the third try. The fight is mostly about the tanks being able to handle the boss switching forms, and the healers being able to keep up the heals on the tanks. For us DPS classes, it’s expend that mana and keep the DPS flowing. We ended up using the Druid tank when Nalorakk was in Troll Form, and the Warrior tank when Nalorakk was in Bear Form.

Nalorakk dropped Bladeangel’s Money Belt (needed by Lycana). Obivously, with our first time in, we weren’t able to clear the trash and drop the boss in time to be eligible for the bonus loot. But we’ll certainly work on that as we move along.

The boss fight was 7 minutes and 57 seconds long. I believe I ended up using 2 super mana potions (as an affliction Warlock with his imp out)…it ended up being quite mana-intensive.

Hunters of Apex of War

Night elf Hunter Flamingarrow and dwarf Hunter Flynti lay down ranged fire as Apex of War clears trash mobs in Zul’Aman. Poor Illustra is already dead (unfortunately Warlocks cannot feign death) in the foreground.
